By train to Dresden
Dresden is connected to many major German cities on a daily basis, usually at two-hourly intervals. ICE, EC and IC trains stop at both Dresden Central Station and Dresden-Neustadt station. Travelling to Dresden by car
Dresden is also well equipped for those travelling by car. For day visitors, we recommend using the Park+Ride scheme to get into the city centre quickly and easily from the surrounding area or the outskirts. Anyone wishing to park directly in the city can use the City of Dresden’s car park finder. For e-mobility, there is also a growing charging infrastructure, complete with an overview of charging points for electric cars.
By plane to Dresden
Dresden is also easily accessible by plane for national and international visitors. Dresden Airport is located just around 9 km from the city centre. There is an underground S-Bahn station within the terminal; S-Bahn line 2 takes guests to the city centre or to Dresden Mitte – on the way to the Maritim Hotel & International Congress Centre Dresden – in around 20 minutes. In addition, organisers benefit from the Meetings & Events packages offered by the Lufthansa Group airlines. Travelling via Berlin Brandenburg (BER) is another attractive option: from there, a direct train service takes guests to Dresden in around 90 minutes without having to change trains. In addition to this, Leipzig/Halle Airport also offers an attractive travel option. Dresden can be reached comfortably in around 1 hour and 45 minutes via a direct Intercity service. Prague Airport is also a good alternative, as Dresden is well connected via regular and fast rail services.
To Dresden by long-distance coach
Long-distance coaches offer a fast, direct and often affordable connection to Dresden – from cities including Berlin, Munich, Vienna and Prague, amongst others. There are two long-distance coach stops: Dresden Hauptbahnhof and Dresden-Neustadt station. Information on operators is available from Flixbus and RegioJet, amongst others.
Local transport in Dresden
It is not just getting here, but also getting around the city that makes Dresden such an attractive location. The city boasts one of the densest local transport networks in Germany. Buses, S-Bahn trains and trams run every 10 minutes during the day, and public transport is available round the clock. Distances between the airport, the city centre, conference hotels and event venues are short. Tickets are available at many stops, on board vehicles and via the DVB mobil app.
CongressTicket for event organisers
The KongressTicket from the Oberelbe Transport Association (VVO) offers real added value for conferences, meetings and trade fairs. It is aimed at event organisers and participants and allows travel on Dresden’s rail and bus network at a particularly favourable fare. According to the latest information on the website, the price is 4 euros per day within the Dresden fare zone. The offer applies to events with between 50 and 250 people; more favourable rates are available for larger events. This makes the ticket a very attractive transport solution for events in Dresden.
