Dresden Islands of Culture 2020

Diversity of Dresden's cultural scene on two routes

At last - Dresden Elbland is back - and with an extraordinary open-air cultural event.

Over seven long weekends, a whole host of individual open-air experiences will create encounters and revitalise the city centre.

With a successful opening event and plenty of tailwind, Dresden is kicking off the first long weekend of the "Dresden Islands of Culture 2020".

Diversity of Dresden's cultural scene on two routes

Cultural route or shopping route: Depending on your mood, you can take one of the two themed routes from one island to the next. This way, visitors pass exciting architecture, museums, pubs, restaurants - and of course shopping opportunities - right in the centre. Each of the twelve islands is labelled, with a number from 1 to 6 and: K for cultural route or S for shopping route.
The islands of the two routes are performed at different times. Visitors who choose the cultural route, for example, can experience up to six different artists or ensembles from the region in one day, and those who take a sporting approach even twelve. However, leaving the routes is expressly encouraged.

12 Islands - 2 Routes - 7 Weeks

The idea: Regional artists of different genres perform at various open-air locations throughout the city centre area - in the fresh air, spread throughout the city and free of admission. Thus, culture can be experienced again by everyone, even with special Corona editions.
12 islands of culture - small stages framed by white pagoda tents - are spread over the entire inner city area - Old Town, Outer New Town and Inner New Town - for seven weeks, from 23 July to 5 September 2020. Every Thursday to Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. there will be six performances on each island lasting about 20 minutes.
The Dresden Culture Islands 2020 will enter their first long weekend from 23 to 25 July 2020. A total of 21 ensembles or individual artists will perform.
