Dresden to be host city for the Special Olympic World Games 2023

The start has been made, the decisions have been taken. 216 Host Towns, 216 municipal projects will shape an open, diverse society. The largest municipal inclusion project in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany creates a new sense of togetherness and opens up the space for encounters far beyond the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 (17 to 25 June 2023).

From 12 to 15 June 2023, Dresden will welcome athletes with disabilities from various nations. We are pleased that we were able to support the state capital in its application. A colourful programme is planned as well as an inclusive festival of encounters as the highlight. Sports Mayor Dr. Peter Lames is pleased about the acceptance: "We will offer our guests an eventful and successful stay. Encounters and exchanges between Dresdeners and athletes from all over the world will further advance the inclusive idea in sport." Inclusion should be implemented and lived everywhere in Dresden's sport.

The delegations get to know the country and its people. They will learn about the regional characteristics and uniqueness of all the federal states from up close. This is how the communities - cities, districts and municipalities - will shape Germany's image in the world.
Parallel to the Host Town Programme for the Special Olympics, the application for the project "LIVE - Lokal Inklusiv Verein(tes) Engagement" of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The aim is to further network Dresden's clubs and offers for inclusion. At least seven more inclusive sporting offers are to be created in Dresden and a network and advice centre with advisors on "inclusive sport in Dresden" is to be set up. The Stadtsportbund Dresden, the Landessportbund Sachsen and various clubs are to be involved.

We are pleased to be able to support the event together with SV Motor Mickten e. V., Lebenshilfe Dresden e. V., NipB Dresden, VERSO gGmbH and with the Dresden School Sports Club.
